I’m Shamal, the founder of Lunumiris Canada. Originally from Sri Lanka, I’ve always cherished the deep cultural traditions and flavors of our cuisine. With a background in financial stability and my current role as an Asset Management Manager, I’ve spent years analyzing numbers and strategies—but my heart has always been drawn to something more personal: bringing a taste of home to the Sri Lankan community in Canada.

Lunumiris Canada started as a passion project, inspired by the nostalgic memories of celebrating the Sinhala and Tamil New Year with family and friends. Food has always been at the center of our festivities, especially ‘kavili’—the sweet and savory delicacies that define our heritage. I realized there was a growing demand for authentic, homemade Sri Lankan treats in Canada, and I wanted to bridge that gap.

At Lunumiris Canada, we are committed to delivering freshly made, high-quality kavili, crafted with traditional recipes and the warmth of home cooking. Our goal is to bring the essence of Sri Lankan celebrations to families here, allowing them to enjoy the flavors of our homeland with every bite.

Meet Sumu F, a culinary maestro with a flair for authentic Sri Lankan cuisine. As the proud owner and chef of Lunu Miris Canada, she runs a successful small business where her gifted hands weave magic with the flavors of Sri Lankan spices. Beyond her culinary talents, Sumu is a dedicated woman, balancing her passion for cooking with the joys of motherhood, raising two lovely kids with the support of her loving husband.

Having embarked on her culinary journey in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sumu’s expertise has blossomed during her time in Canada, accumulating over a decade of experience. Drawing inspiration from her rich cultural heritage and exploring other culinary traditions, she has mastered the art of creating succulent and luscious dishes.

Her remarkable journey led her to prestigious establishments in Toronto, where she refined her culinary techniques under the guidance of the best chefs in Canada.

Sumu’s culinary prowess transcends borders, as she expertly blends elements and flavors from North America, the Middle East, South Asia, and Southeast Asia. The dishes she creates are infused with the captivating and aromatic essence of Sri Lankan spices, leaving taste buds enchanted with every bite.
